Clean Energy Projects Approved by BC Hydro

Vancouver, BC – The Clean Energy Association of British Columbia (CEBC) welcomes BC Hydro’s award of 4 new electricity purchase agreements under its Bioenergy Phase 2 Call.  “Utilizing wood waste from forest operations and pine beetle killed trees, these projects will create new jobs and spark investment in rural and First Nations communities in BC’s hinterland”, said Paul Kariya, Executive Director of CEBC.

Chetwynd, Fraser Lake, Merritt and Fort St. James are the communities in which the clean energy projects will be located.

BC is blessed to have tremendous natural resource assets which include renewable energy fuels to power its economy.  Hydro, wind, biomass, biogas, solar, tidal, wave and geothermal complement natural gas as we move forward to a clean energy future.

The Clean Energy Act passed in 2010 establishes the pathway to reducing GhGs, supporting energy conservation and sparking innovation and development in clean energy and clean technologies.  “We have the opportunity to lead in demonstrating how a modern industrial society can make the transition to utilizing clean energy resources,” said Kariya.

CEBC is BC’s clean energy sector advocate.  Its 300 members comprise developers and support service providers who provide clean energy from run-of-river hydro, wind, biomass and new emerging fuels.  Working in partnership with First Nations, BC Hydro, and provincial and federal governments and local communities, the clean energy sector contributes to job creation, capital expenditures and investments in British Columbia.
