Clean Energy BC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Laureen Whyte has been appointed the association’s new Executive Director. Ms. Whyte possesses over 25 years of experience in the natural resources sector with expertise in business, policy, regulation and capacity building for industry, government, and First Nations.

“Laureen possesses a breadth of industry knowledge and experience working with multi-stakeholder initiatives; I am confident that her background will be of immense benefit to the association and to advocating for an inclusive, low-carbon future with the clean energy sector being a leader in this transition,” said Isabelle Deguise, co-chair of Clean Energy BC’s Board of Directors.

Prior to joining Clean Energy BC, Ms. Whyte worked in Community & Regional Affairs at Westcoast Energy, establishing the company as an innovative leader in Canadian corporate social responsibility, bringing educational, industry, First Nation and government leaders together in partnership. She also founded Arbutus Consulting, which specializes in supporting community, consultation, lands, environmental assessment, and policy development initiatives.

Ms. Whyte additionally served as the Vice President for the Association for Mineral Exploration BC where she was responsible for developing and advancing industry initiatives in resource sector policies, environmental assessment, Indigenous and community engagement, and economic development.

“I am excited about this opportunity to collaborate with government, industry, First Nations and communities to help shape the role of the renewable energy industry in generating wealth throughout the province and contributing to a low-carbon future,” said Ms. Whyte.

Ms. Whyte brings to the position ample industry expertise, using a collaborative approach to the design, development, and implementation of strategies to further the respective and mutual interests of multiple stakeholders. Going forward, she will be responsible for working with Clean Energy BC’s Board of Directors, members, stakeholders, and staff to help propel the clean energy sector into its next chapter.
