Energy Auditing and Carbon Accounting

This course will provide professionals with the necessary skills to perform an energy audit and carbon accounting on commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities, operations, and projects. The course introduces energy and carbon accounting procedures and protocols along with operational cost and performance analysis. It also introduces an overview of energy planning and development of strategies and policies to improve energy performances and reduce GHG emissions.

Objectives

• Introduce the concepts and procedures of energy accounting.
• Introduce methods to analyse the sources of energy and their performance in a facility, an operation or a project.
• Introduce the procedures and protocols for monitoring and reporting energy consumption, energy demands, and costs.
• Provide the professionals with necessary skills and tools to conduct an energy audit.
• Introduce methodologies for energy planning and strategies to improve energy performances.
• Introduce the concepts of GHG accounting and reporting at the facility, operation, and project levels.
• Describe the science of carbon cycle and climate change and the role of accounting and reporting in climate change mitigation.
• Provide an introduction to the concepts and development of organizational GHG inventories.
• Introduce the concepts and principles of GHG projects, carbon-neutral, and offset generation.
• Provide an overview of corporate GHG planning and strategy development.
• Provide an overview of government and organizational policies to reduce GHG emission.
